WHAT A SPAGAT!

Project: Three Sets of Character Designs for Spagat! Design İstanbul Exhibition
18 December 2010 - 20 February 2011

Venue: Martha Herford Museum, Germany

Curator: Max Borka

Tassel Hassle, The Spagat Trio and Headleg... These three art pieces created by Ömer Ozan Erdoğan in contribution with Creative Bonanza, consist of one character set (The Spagat Trio) and two other distinct characters (Tassel Hassle and Headleg) Located at different parts of the museum, the characters are all related to eachother by the materials used, design characteristics and stories. Black and pink faux-leather gives the characters a fetish look. Synthetic fiber and sponge are used for the fillings.

The names refer to design details and the characters’ personalities. All the pieces have rhyming stories, which include hints about their design influences and personalities. Characters’ designs

are inspired from Istanbul city life, people living in Istanbul as well as Ömer Ozan Erdoğan’s

personal approach.

The Spagat Trio
Three buddies worked real hard
For they had an important part
In Spagat, their role was a total work of art

They spread their legs apart
But that was only a start
They had to practice a lot
For them, this one was an important shot

Actually they were quite used to making “spagat”
To keep up with the crazy pace of İstanbul’s hectic life

Tassel Hassle
Tassel Hassle was a mean, cranky guy
His presence meant trouble wherever he went by

One day he thought he could fly
Like Hezarfen of Ottoman Empire

Maybe you’ve heard of that guy
Who jumped off the Galata Tower into the sky
Well, it’s a kind of a legend that doesn’t die

So Tassel put on some wings Hezarfen style
And climbed up the stairs, four stories high

But instead of jumping from the side
He sat there staring at İstanbul skyline
